Project Tonto

We needed your help... and you gave it.

A BIG THANK YOU TO EVERYBODY THAT HELPED RAISE THE MONEY NEEDED TO ORDER OUR TONTO   AND HE WILL JOIN US WHEN WE MOVE INTO OUR NEW SCHOOL

Some Abbey Court pupils are fortunate to have been able to experience riding a real horse (we currently take 5 pupils per weekly session). However, by purchasing our own horse simulator we are able to extend riding opportunities to 80% of our pupils, allowing them to engage with the whole riding experience.

The Ridemaster Simulator helps improve concentration and coordination. As the simulator is mechanical it  enables more pupils with disabilities to benefit from this experience. A recent quotation in our parental survey stated,

The introduction of horse-riding is really useful – so valuable in both physical and social ways.

Many pupils experience mobility problems which would be greatly benefitted from learning basic riding skills. Riding can assist with posture and strengthening specific muscles, which can be of benefit to the children when walking or using their wheelchairs and walking frames. Some PMLD pupils cannot visit the riding stables as there are no hoist facilities. In school we have an extensive range of hoisting equipment which would mean we are able to deliver a riding experience to even the most impacted pupils.

On behalf of all the pupils at Abbey Court – THANK YOU!
